Cheers! Having a nightcap may be good for your health
You may find your cheeky nightcap helps you wind down and there is research to help backup that claim.
Here are 4 reasons why a nightcap may be good for you:
- Can help with insomnia:
Beer is a great nightcap. Ales, stouts and lagers have been found to stimulate dopamine, a compound that is often prescribed by doctors to insomnia sufferers. According to research at the Indiana University School of Medicine, just a taste is enough to make drinkers feel calmer and more relaxed.
2. It could be good for your heart:
This one has been up for debate lately, but a research team at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania found dark ales and stouts can reduce the chance of heart attacks. There have been several other studies that have found adults who drink moderately have a lower heart disease rate than non-drinkers. However, a recent study in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs found there is little evidence that moderately drinking any kind of alcohol will protect you against heart disease.
3. Can help with cholesterol:
A study from Pennsylvania State University says moderate drinking is better for good cholesterol levels than not drinking at all.
4. Weight loss:
According to research from Washington State University and Harvard Medical School, drinking two glasses of wine before bed will help you lose weight. It all has to do with the resveratrol in the grapes and how they interact with fat. The Harvard study found that women who drank two glasses of wine a day were 70% less likely to be overweight. The studies also noted that it was best to drink your wine in the evening because it helps you avoid snacking.
