Do you suffer from ‘buttne’? Your cute leggings are to blame
It might be embarrassing but a lot of women suffer from unsightly spots on their behinds.
Breakouts are common all over the body at any age but pimples on your posterior may be caused by irritation from wearing tight clothes – like leggings – and not showering right away after the gym.
Unlike acne on your face, buttne isn’t acne at all, but rather folliculitis.
“It’s not like acne on the face. It’s inflammation of fine hair on the butt and sometimes it can even be an infection,” dermatologist Dr. Kenneth Howe of Wexler Dermatology in New York told the Daily Mail. He said he sees this problem primarily in women in their 20s. “They are wearing tighter clothes and are more active, which irritates the follicles.”
Material such as Lycra and polyester traps sweat in and causes blocked pores but there are things you can do to help treat buttne.
“Avoiding scrubbing, and lay off the SoulCycle for a while! The combination of tight fitting spandex in a sweaty environment and chronic rubbing due to cycling is a recipe for disaster,”cosmetic dermatologist Shereene Idriss told Allure magazine.
“Also, after a workout make sure to get out of you work out gear – ASAP – and into something more breathable. Waxing should also be avoided as it can lead to further obstruction of hair follicles, and worsening of inflammation and subsequent pigmentation.”
Experts recommend wearing loose, cotton-based materials, using a benzoyl peroxide wash and skipping spin class for a bit to help banish buttne.
